6 Supplement and Foods That Support Your Gut Health – Dr. Jason Jones Elizabeth City NC Chiropractor

Microorganisms balance in the digestive tract is referred to as gut health. You must take proper care of your gut to promote mental and physical health and also boost your immunity system. Your gut is made up of trillions of microbes, which may be beneficial, essential, or harmful to your gut.

In this article, we will discuss some food and supplements that can promote a healthy gut. They include the following:

Fermented foods and probiotics

Probiotic supplements help to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria and support the gut microbiome. These foods help to prevent gut inflammation and other intestinal issues.  

You can get probiotics naturally by taking fermented foods. Eating these foods can help promote a healthy guy. Some good examples include kefir, kimchi, fermented vegetables, kombucha, tempeh, miso, etc.

Prebiotic fiber

Prebiotics are non-digestible carbohydrates that serve as food for probiotics and promote the multiplication of beneficial bacteria in the gut. These foods can better withstand the temperature and pH changes of the guts.

Some good examples of foods rich in prebiotic fiber include asparagus, chicory, bananas, garlic, onions, Jerusalem artichoke, whole grains, etc.

Asparagus

Asparagus is highly rich in prebiotics. It is a type of vegetable that aids digestion. Asparagus helps to decrease bloating. Asparagus can be sautéed, chopped, and added as a salad, or you can decide to steam the vegetable and enjoy it with rice or any dish of your choice this thanksgiving.

Acacia fiber

Acacia fiber is also a prebiotic-rich fiber that is gotten from a gum sap in the acacia tree. It is outstanding at promoting the growth of essential gut microbes.

Studies have shown that there is an increased count of bifidobacteria, an essential gut bacterium, within ten days of using this food supplement.

Acacia fiber is also known to aid the gut in weight management and control. It may temporarily reduce inflammation, which makes it suitable for people with a sensitive stomach.

More so, Acacia fiber has a slow fermentation rate, which makes you have less bloating and of course, less gas.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is not just suitable for sunburns, but it’s also instrumental in promoting gut health. Aloe Vera is rich in amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. And it helps to strengthen the gut barrier and keep out invaders from the gut.

Aloe Vera helps to reduce temporary inflammation, relieve constipation, and fight against harmful gut bacteria. Aloe Vera is also a good source of prebiotic food for essential microbes.

Butyrate

Butyrate is an important food supplement that is rich in fatty acid and is produced by gut bacteria when digesting prebiotic fiber. It is an essential source of energy for colon cells, and it helps to reduce temporary inflammation.

You can find butyrate in grass-fed butter, and it is also available as a food supplement. However, butyrate is produced by healthy gut bacteria in the digestive tract.
